working safely with trauma and dissociation

a training day that we can provide for your organisation

At Heal and Learn Foundation, we work hard to study and understand the implications on counselling practice of the latest neuroscientific findings and other developments in the field of trauma and dissociation. Our suggestions for counsellors are based on this understanding and the principle that anything new must integrate into each of the many established approaches in which they are trained (or are training).

your counsellors will learn...

a model, including straightforward language, for understanding and explaining the effects of trauma on the brain and body

a psychoeducation approach to help clients understand how trauma has affected them (which levels off the power imbalance invited when the counsellor is seemingly the one with all the knowledge)

the 4F threat-response styles (fight; flight; freeze; faun) and how they are played out in the counselling room

a range of skills in recognising and working with fragmented selves, including dissociated parts.
